Harness, Dickey & Pierce, an elite intellectual property law firm ranked among the top ten patent law firms in the U.S., has an immediate opening for an associate attorney in its Troy, Michigan office.  Qualified candidates will have an undergraduate degree and/or technical experience in the Mechanical Engineering arts (an advanced degree is preferred, but not required), state bar and U.S.P.T.O. registration, 3-6 years patent preparation and prosecution experience and familiarity with U.S. patent laws.  We offer competitive compensation and benefits.

This position offers an opportunity to develop a varied and interesting practice preparing and prosecuting patent applications on a range of commercially significant technologies for large- and medium-sized clients from diverse industries including automotive systems, batteries and chargers, fasteners, food processing, furniture, heavy equipment, household products, HVAC, industrial-process handling, medical devices, optics, packaging, power tools, powertrain, process equipment, pumps, valves, refrigeration, sporting equipment, textiles and turf-care products.  Opportunities exist for additional responsibilities and to develop additional skills including formulating patent strategies, conducting patentability and freedom-to-practice studies, preparing opinion letters, conducting due diligence and negotiating technology agreements.
